Question-Re-Adopt or Not?

This came up during the passport process..but I am just curious now-should we readopt Hope or not? The state of Florida does not require it..but will it be easier for school etc.?

What are your views or experiences?

any advice will be helpful-thank you:)

I would say re-adopt. Her (and your) life will be so much easier if she has a US birth certificate. Not that I believe she should have to, but you know you're going to come across some ignorant person one day that says "oh, I don't think I can accept this" because it wasn't issued in English.

It wasn't too hard in TN. Did it myself. Hopefully it's easy in FL!

In PA you don't need to readopt to get a US birth certificate. Your social worker should know what needs to be done. But if you need to readopt to get new birth certificate... do it! Good luck!

I agree, it is always better to have a document issued in USA that says Hope is your daughter.

I chose to re-adopt as well. Pretty painless and inexpensive in CA. And if you (or she) ever need copies of birth cert's, etc., it will save you so much time, frustration, and expense.

It is so much easier to take my USA birth certificate with us when we it. It is well worth it. We live in CT and it is free here. Just filing documents with the local court, then apply for the statr birth certificate.

I am asking myself the same question right now....We have our first post placement visit this Wednesday and I am also thinking about readoption. I do hear all the time that it is so much easier to have a US Birth Certificate. I think we probably will.

One more thing....I do know that it is different in every state to readopt! I was looking into it and it looks like it will cost a few hundred for us to do it

If you ever lose your Russian birth certificate, it would be very hard to replicate. Second as my social worker pointed out, right now "our story" of Claires adoption from Russia is beautiful and we love hearing it over and over again, but when Claire becomes a teenager, she might not want to share "our story" with coaches, schools, the DMV, etc or any of the other places or people that require copies of her birth certificate.
